Editorial Standards

Japan Almanac is built to be useful to readers, journalists, researchers, and people arriving from the cards themselves. We publish fewer pages rather than thin pages, and we identify what is known, what varies, and what still needs review.

Research

Factual claims are checked against named sources. We prefer official Japanese government and cultural institutions, museums, national or regional tourism and cultural bodies, botanical gardens, universities, and primary historical collections. Wikipedia may help identify terms, but it is not treated as the sole authority behind a published claim.

Dates

Dates and annually changing information are reviewed before publication. Gregorian dates, traditional lunisolar associations, and contemporary events are identified separately when that distinction matters.

AI And Images

AI may assist production, layout, and illustration, but it is not treated as a factual source. Generated illustrations are identified as illustrations. Programmatic graphics built from factual data and Koi-Koi card assets are described separately from generated editorial art.

Games And Variants

House rules, Koi-Koi engine defaults, and broader Hanafuda traditions are not presented as the same thing. Rule variants are identified as variants.

Commercial Disclosure

Japan Almanac and Koi-Koi are produced by the same independent studio. Any sponsored material, if ever introduced, will be disclosed clearly.

Corrections

Material corrections are logged visibly on the corrections page and, where needed, on the relevant article.
