JNTO notes the old name minazuki, often treated as “the month of water,” and frames June around the rainy season as it moves north through much of Japan.

Hokkaido has lower rainfall, and Sapporo hosts several June festivals.

What To Watch

Expect rainy-season travel in much of the country. In Hokkaido, watch for Yosakoi Soran Festival in early to mid-June and Hokkaido Shrine Festival beginning June 14. Elsewhere, build in rain time and look for gardens, hydrangea routes, covered arcades, museums, and hot springs.

Hanafuda Lens

June is the peony suit. The four cards are the butterfly, a blue ribbon, and two peony chaff cards.

How We Know

This page uses JNTO for rainy-season, Hokkaido, and Sapporo festival context. Nintendo Museum supplies the Hanafuda month structure, and Koi-Koi supplies the exact card face used in the hero image.

The Peony Suit

June's Hanafuda suit is Peony: four exact Koi-Koi card faces in the site deck, shown here without redraws or substitution.
